United Stray of USA, non-profit corporation in the State of Iowa, conception began in 2022 when its founder, Nancy Schmitz, moved to the State of Iowa where she was met by many stray cats living on the street. It was heartbreaking to see how many were living out of garbage cans and struggling to survive Iowa’s brutal cold winters. Seeking to find a way to care for these “lost” animals, she did her best in finding them homes and even opened her doors to a family of cats that she continues to nurture and care for.
But she knew that there needed to be more done to help the many rescue and stray animals, and thus, the idea of United Stray of USA was conceived. She visited many local Iowa shelters and rescue organizations with the hope of seeking their assistance. What she discovered is that many of the animal shelters and rescue centers were maxed out in their ability to care for any additional strays and lacked the funds to expand and were even challenged to keep their doors open. She reached out to other like-minded stray cat caregivers and found that many of them also could not continue to bear the financial burden it was to feed the many strays in their areas. This massive over population of stray animals — especially cats who struggle daily to find food — still continue to have litters of kittens. This problem deserves much more attention. Just providing food for stray cats is not enough. The current resources of Trapping and Neutering/Spaying are very limited and need much more financial support.
United Stray of USA, has opened its doors in an effort to generate donations that could be used to not only purchase food and supplies, but veterinarian support to treat these strays who are not only still living on the street (TNR — Trap-Neuter-Release) but also for the animal shelters and rescue centers, and relief and support for those who are qualified and dedicated stray caregivers who tirelessly spend their time and money feeding a colony of cats in their neighborhoods.
When there is a weather/fire disaster, the aid in recovery relief for these tails in crisis is limited to none. For all these reasons mentioned is why United Stray of USA was formed–to provide the financial resources to existing animal welfare centers so they have the means to rescue and provide the help these animals so deserve.
